Get maximum performance out of your Windows 7 by doing the following steps.
1. Right click the computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. After which, click Advanced system settings in the left pane and then click Settings in the Performance section. A new window will open. Disable all unnecessary Visual Effects but keep the following options enabled if desired.

  • Enable desktop composition in case you use Windows Aero
  • Enable transparent glass in case you use transparency
  • Smooth edges of screen fonts
  • Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
  • Use visual styles on windows and buttons
2. In the same computer icon on your desktop, click Manage and go to Services & Applications > Services. Set the following services to Manual or Disable for a faster Windows 7 startup.
  • Application Experience
  • Computer Browser - if not connected to a network
  • Desktop Window Manager Session Manager - if not using the Aero theme
  • Diagnostic Policy Service
  • Distributed Link Tracking Client
  • IP Helper
  • Offline Files
  • Portable Device Enumerator Service
  • Print Spooler - if not using a printer
  • Protected Storage
  • Remote Registry - disable for security purposes
  • Secondary Logon
  • Server - if not connected to a network
  • Tablet PC Input Service
  • TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
  • Windows Error Reporting Service
  • Windows Media Center Service Launcher
  • Windows Time
3. Open Windows Explorer. Go to Organize > Folder and then Search Options. Click the View tab and then disable the following options:
  • Display file size information in folder tips
  • Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items
4. Type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in RUN or in Start Menu search box and press Enter. Click the Startup tab and disable unnecessary entries to speed up system startup. For example:
  • Graphics card driver utility
  • Sound Card utility
5. In your Control Panel, open sound applet and select No Sounds from the Sound Scheme options.
6. Lastly, do the following for better system performance:
  • Install a reliable and effective anti-virus software
  • Do not install softwares that are unnecessary
  • See to it that you are using the latest device drivers
  • Regularly defragment your hard disks
  • Update your Windows via Automatic Updates
You will surely experience a noticeable performance boost after this procedure.
